Picture this: You are offered a refreshingly sweet paan at the entrance, you walk in to a darkish show area that’s lit up with pretty diyas and flowers, there is a live shehanai performance, and the ramp is set against a ghat-inspired backdrop. If you thought this was grand, wait till we tell you about the actual show. It was a show grander than any other at the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2016, a show befitting a grand finale!
Featuring 16 of India’s top designers – Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Namrata Joshipura, Ashish N Soni, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abhishek Gupta, Gauri & Nainika, Alpana & Neeraj, Abraham & Thakore, Anupamaa Dayal, Malini Ramani, ATSU, Arjun Saluja, Manish Arora, JJ Vallaya, Sabyasachi and Tarun Tahiliani – the grand finale was an ode to the indigenous Banarasi weave and the hand-picked designers gave it their all to create nothing less than a masterpiece. However the unique thing about the show was that the traditional weave got a contemporary makeover with every designer using Banarasi to the best of his/her design sensibility and giving the garment a signature style. Feast your eyes.
