Gaurav Gupta is undoubtedly hot when it comes to haute couture! Fluidity, drama and sculpture ruled the ramp. Covering India Couture Week 2016 for Joos, our friend Shipra noticed layers of fabrics and a lot of tassels and pearls, ruching, crystals (re-swarovski), lace, tulle, chiffons, organzas and georgettes, tiers and multilayers… and then some more! Elegance and a certain frozen look amplified by the set, you cannot unsee this collection once you have seen it.
Taking off on a tangent to the usual bridal ethnic embroidery that you see more often than not, this one takes inspiration from different cultures and moods. In Gaurav’s own words, this collection is “Of fluid structures, of frozen waves. Creating new cultures of where we are. A culture not belonging to an era or place but scaping many referrals. From Greek , Roman, Indian and English but twisted to the new eye.”
The palette was extensive, not limited to the bridal or shades of reds, maroons and pinks but also had a big range of the pastels and whites – a soothing scenario we must add! All in all, a treat to the eyes, we will sure see many of these sexy outfits on A-listers and the Bollywood brigade. We’re going to wait and watch!
