Will you wear your sari with knee high boots? Well, you can try!. I am extremely inspired by Donna Karan’s Cocktail gown that’s been draped like a sari if you look closely. Notice how it’s worn with a chunky knit cardigan, gold belt and… knee high suede boots by Reed Krakoff! Showstopper stuff!
Closer home, had the ‘Girl In Yellow Boots’, Kalki Koechlin, teamed these brocade boots (a bit over the top, but adorable!) with her gorgeous sari, the red carpet at TIFF would truly have been conquered.
I remember a darling friend of mine who happens to be a true workaholic – she actually wore a sari & ankle length boots to her wedding! Isn’t that totally cool! The Pandit couldn’t believe his eyes, but to quote her, “the boots were perfect for Delhi’s January chill and SO comfortable!” Who wears the boots in her marriage, is anyone’s guess 😉
You can dare the norms too! For the right look, try wearing the sari higher-shorter, with the pleats on the side sans the underskirt. This should be close to the DKNY cocktail look. You can also team this most sensuous outfit with fish-nets, metallic stockings or thigh-high socks. You can try matching your blouse color to the stockings or the laces!. How’s that for different?
I believe your dressing style and your choice of shoes completely defines your attitude towards life. Go ahead and experiment…there’s lots of space out there this winter to try out the new and the whacky!
