I’ve been following Pantone’s colour of the year nominations for a while now. Every year, people go gaga about a colour. Magazine covers, look books, collections, closets, the colour finds a place everywhere. But this year has been different. The colour institute describes 2015’s colour of the year – Marsala, as a naturally robust and earthy wine red, much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.
Sounds more gastronomic that sartorial, doesn’t it?
Maybe that’s why the colour doesn’t have many takers? Or maybe it’s a deceptively easy hue to wear? While the richness of the colour lends itself well in autumn, you don’t see yourself wearing it in spring/summer, do you?
