What can one expect from someone who’s dressed all of Bollywood and almost introduced the concept of celebrity showstoppers to the Indian runway? Our good friend, Shipra, who covered the opening show of India Couture Week 2016, for Joos tell us.
A Manish Malhotra show… you hear that Fawad Khan is opening the show and Deepika is the show stopper… you can’t wait! The buzz before the show deafening and impatience levels very high. We are waiting for the show to start for over an hour… oh, come on already! The wait is over soon and after the crowd settles, there’s the announcement we’ve all been waiting for… the show begins. Lo and behold, here comes the music and in walks Fawad to loud cheers and claps looking dapper in a quilted, clean cut sherwani.
The show continues with exquisite embroideries, sexy backs, with an architectural influence and royal elegance. Indulgent hand-woven gold embroidery adorn sheer and velvet fabrics, in lehengas with sheer tops, opulent jackets over cigarette pants, exquisite gowns and regal sherwanis, reds, maroons and browns transcended and weaved a rich wedding look!
The men had something to look forward to as well… the velvet and silk sherwanis and tuxedos. You have a stunning groom right there.
It all ended with Deepika, the showstopper, rocking a red off-shoulder blouse and lehenga, minimalist jewelry and hairdo that offset the heavy embroidery. And with that, the visually rich Persian Story concluded!
To sum it up – it was a show, in the truest sense of the word. MM knows how to put up a spectacle, he definitely didn’t disappoint, but maybe few of us were eager to see something sartorially new?
