The Golden Globes Series: Part 2 of 3
Just the way Golden Globes sets the trend for the movies that (may) win at Oscars, it pretty much does the same for key fashion looks that will set the trend for the rest of the year. If you notice, the red carpet is loaded with an exciting mix of Fall and Spring colors.
The Aqua trend was key not only because of the fishtails but the textures and hues that flooded the red carpet. From the hottest color to hit spring/summer- cobalt blue, royal blue, azures & powder blues to Fall’s best-selling Jewel tones- Aqamarine, teals, emerald greens and jade. On the red carpet, Sarah Michelle Gellar in her ink-blot swirling Monique Lhuillier number looked fresh. The lighter shade of the peacock blue Prada gown was gorgeous in its texture but did nothing for Freida Pinto On the other hand Michelle Williams looked gorgeous in a simple 3/4 sleeve devore-velvet Jason Wu dress.
Reds definitely were a flaming trend. The laser-cut, layered ‘Giles’ gown on Glee star Dianna Agron is all fire and flames. Reese Witherspoon’s cheeky smiles however, didn’t make her Zac Posen gown fit any better on her petite frame. She’s only 5’2″! Is that even ‘legal’ on the red carpet?
The man of the moment George Clooney and his pro-wrestler girlfriend Stacy Kiebler looked red hot!
The soft pastels, ivory, blush pinks, delicate lavender, whites and the nude colors set the tone for spring 2012.It’s a tough color to wear but in sheer cottons and silks combined with bows, laces and tassels with 20’s flapper details & uneven hemlines- I see this becoming the hottest summer trend and perfect for those Oh! so hot Indian summers.
Black & White, tuxedo-like combinations will continue in formal wear. Kate Winslet’s looks hot in a Jenny Peckham black gown in hammer silk-satin bodice (the neckline with the bow details is too cute!). The fit ‘n flare of her ivory crepe silk skirt is the hottest shape for skirts to hit the markets in Spring/Summer. Look out for it!
‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’, Rooney Mara, looked graceful and fresh in the bow-tied plunge neckline gown by Nina Ricci. The T-strap neckline detail on Morena Baccarin’s black Edition gown by Georges Chakra added the oomph factor.
Let these trends guide your Spring-Summer wardrobe refresh – and wait and watch how these colours will define key accesories, including footwear trends in the coming days.
